CABJ to Award $25,000 in Grants to Black-Owned Digital Media Startups
For the first time in the organization's history, the Canadian Association of Black Journalists is handing out $25,000 in grants to support the launch of five independent digital startups created by Black Canadian journalists and media entrepreneurs. All of them joined the CABJ Media Startup Bootcamp for an opportunity to learn, network, and refine their business strategies over the course of the three-week training program. Each of them will receive a $5,000 grant to take their startups to the next level.
To celebrate, we are pleased to be hosting the first-ever CABJ Media Startup Bootcamp Wrap Party. Join us on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at 6 PM ET as we commemorate the program, focused on equipping and empowering Black journalists across Canada to launch their own digital media startups.
This virtual event includes a live Q&A featuring a panel of industry professionals, guest speakers, and a chance to learn more about opportunities offered to Black content creators and entrepreneurs. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet the first five recipients of these seed grants.
"We're so thrilled to be supporting these five Black journalists and media entrepreneurs," says CABJ Executive Director Nadia Stewart, who will emcee the event. "Their digital media startups are going to be game-changers in a landscape hungry for their unique perspectives and powerful voices. We're so proud of the work they're doing and hope more organizations will support their work as well."
