CABJ Awards $7,500 in Scholarships to Black Journalism Students

Scholarships made possible by the ongoing support of CABJ Donors

The Canadian Association of Black Journalists is proud to provide $7,500 in scholarships to support three Black students pursuing careers in journalism/media. These students have demonstrated recognized involvement in the Black community and will each receive $2,500 to develop their careers.

As the journalism industry evolves, the CABJ is here to support the next generation of Black journalists in sharing their diverse perspectives and presenting fresh stories that break through the traditional news cycle.

"This is what we do as journalists. We put a spotlight on the important issues that no one wants to talk about, and in doing so we bring change to the world," says scholarship recipient Damilola Onime. "Elevating the voice of the voiceless is what I want to do. Educating people with the facts of the stories is what I enjoy doing."

"We received a number of scholarship applications this year from some exceptional Black students who are pursuing careers in journalism. They are bright, they are creative, and we wish we could have handed out more scholarships in support of all of them," says CABJ Executive Director Nadia Stewart. "This year's recipients are stellar young journalists set to make their mark on this industry. We're grateful for all of the donations that made it possible for us to keep on supporting up-and-coming talent."
