CABJ teams up with CJOC, Carleton Alumni Association to launch new grant

In response to the lack of racialized voices in today’s news industry, and the calls to action published earlier this year by CABJ and Canadian Journalists of Colour (CJOC), the Journalism Chapter of the Carleton University Alumni Association (CUAA) has partnered with CABJ, CJOC, and Carleton's FutureFunder fundraising platform to create a grassroots fundraiser for a project-based reporting grant that will be given to a Carleton Journalism student who is Black, Indigenous or a person of colour at the end of this academic year.

The grant's objective is to support graduating students with a funded opportunity to pursue reporting of their choice and to encourage students to shine light on the systemic injustices that exist within Canadian society today. This grant will provide financial support to pursue a story that may also be published in a Canadian news outlet. Should you be interested in donating to this grant, please feel free to donate here.

The goal is to fundraise $1000 for one graduating student, however, should fundraising efforts be successful in garnering more, we are determined to give funds to more than one racialized graduating Carleton Journalism student. On Tuesday, December 1st, Carleton University will be matching every donation that is made on the Future Funder Project, dollar-for-dollar, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
