Call for Guest Lecturers

J-Schools Canada, the umbrella group for Canadian journalism schools, is looking for racialized journalists who can teach students as guest lecturers. Diversity and inclusion in journalism schools are among the Seven Calls to Action issued by Canadian Journalists of Colour and the Canadian Association of Black Journalists.

Journalism schools are looking for experts who can speak on a range of issues, including:

• Science (health, environment etc.), business, courts, policing, politics at various governmental levels, sports, arts and culture that intersect with journalism and media coverage;

• Pitching and freelancing, longform and feature writing, data, audio and/or video documentary, newsroom management, journalism start-up culture;

• Journalism and issues of race, systemic racism, newsroom experiences, objectivity and activism;

• Journalism and solutions – how to cover racialized communities respectfully and thoroughly.

If you have talent and experience in any of these areas and are interested in being a guest lecturer at a university or community college, please register at this link.

Your name will be added to an internal database and will only be shared with CJOC, CABJ and Canadian journalism schools.

Increasing diversity in Canadian newsrooms starts in the classroom, and you can help!
