The Canadian Association of Black Journalists (CABJ), in partnership with the University of King’s College and Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), are pleased to announce the creation of J-School Noire, a media training and mentorship session being held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at NSCC’s Ivany campus in Dartmouth.
This free workshop is a chance for high school and junior high-school students to learn from top local media pros and build storytelling skills with the aim of equipping the next generation of media professionals.
J-School Noire focuses on four key skills:
How to tell a story (writing, producing for broadcast and online)
How to conduct an interview
How to shoot and edit
How to do a live report
After completing J-School Noire, interested students have the opportunity to carry-on their learning by way of a mentoring program. The CABJ will pair students with a senior journalist for yearlong mentoring as they begin their journey towards media careers.
