Amal Mohamud

Bio

Amal Mohamud is an award-winning journalist and producer from Edmonton, Alberta. She is a first-generation Somali Canadian who is breaking barriers through her media work in Canada. Amal has worked with OMNI Alberta, AMI Accessible Media, CBC Edmonton Creator Network, City News Edmonton, Edmonton Foundation Community and Muslim Kids TV as an independent producer and journalist. She began her career volunteering for Shaw TV Edmonton’s community program in 2015. In recent years, Amal has developed her writing, producing, presenting, directing skills, and has quickly become a voice of her generation, winning three community awards for highlighting the stories of marginalized communities and underrepresented voices in Canada. She won Diversity Magazine’s AC Junior Achievement Award in 2019. The Somali Women and Children Association awarded her the Community Service Recognition Award also in the same year, and in 2020,  she won the Fil Fraser Award from the National Black Coalition Canada, an award-winning journalist and producer.
